It is important when doing applique that everything is sewn down, otherwise the hopping foot of the long arm machine may get caught underneath your applique and damage may occur to your quilt top (ask me how I know…). Luckily when this happened, I was standing right over the quilt and was able to quickly stop the machine, and move the hopping foot away manually before it ripped the applique off.
